The first step in weight management is to know whether you are in which category

Ø  Under weight (Need to gain some weight)

Ø  Normal weight (Need to maintain the weight)

Ø  Overweight (Need to lose some weight)

To calculate in which category u fall on u need to know about BMI (Body Mass Index)

 

BMI - BODY MASS INDEX

World level approved Concept

BMI = W / H2   =   Weight (kg)/ Height2 (m)

If a person height is 175 cm (1.75m) and weight 70Kg then BMI = 70 / (1.75)2 = 22.8

If BMI

Below 18.5      = Under Weight

18.5 to 24.9     = Normal Weight

25 to 29.9        = Pre- Obesity

30 to 34.9        = Obesity Class 1

35 to 39.9        = Obesity Class 2

Above 40         = Obesity Class 3

Pregnant Ladies, Babies and muscle Builders are excluded from the BMI concept

1.    Whether Breast feeding mothers need to maintain the BMI value
